As reported in Wired, YouTube’s advertising plan is undergoing a major transformation. The online video platform will now put more emphasis on established TV and Hollywood talent as a way of growing advertising revenue. This business decision may have a negative impact on homegrown YouTubers whose popularity, while great, can’t match that of people like Will Smith.
The new approach wasn’t motivated with the goal of producing better entertainment and information. Major sponsors complained that some of YouTube’s outside-the-box videos turned off customers. Madison Avenue typically prefers safe to cutting edge.
Fortunately, the change will not interfere with mobile moviemakers who want to share their creative work. Anyone complying with YouTube’s terms of service can still upload video—for free. And YouTube’s search engine will still enable the little guy to be found. It’s just that the odds of getting rich have shrunk.
And don’t forget, there’s always Vimeo.com.
YouTube has destroyed itself ever since its changed it policies and it affected a lot of creators. Lots of accounts were also terminated on the account of ‘breach of rules’ which was also unnecessary and after this update. it seems pretty sure that a lot of people would like to opt for other options.
Coming to Vimeo, its a beautiful site, I also have a channel, it has great quality but suffers in popularity. Also its basic free plans have too much limitations. Also you can’t monetize your videos on the platform. you will have to switch to paid plans or upgrade to do that. Not everyone shall go into this so…
Facebook was also reported to have its own advertising and publishing program but that will take time to shape up. Dailymotion has monetization facilities but no match for YouTube. It’s a struggle out there for creators
