Benjamin Lapierre is a solo filmmaker par excellence. In producing “9hr 17” he wrote the script, directed the action, chose the music, and edited the movie. He was also the film’s only actor. At times, three versions of himself appear onscreen simultaneously! The mind-bending result won “9hr 17” the LumaFusion award at the SmartFone Flick Fest (SF3). The visual effects are so dazzling, you may want to play the show a few times. Doing so will allow you to appreciate the writer-director-editor’s subtle acting skills. As for the magic, Lapierre explains the tricks in a making of video (below)
The “Making” of Video
The following behind-the-scenes video covers all aspects of how Benjamin Lapierre made “9hr 17.” If you know French, you’re in luck. But if you don’t, try YouTube’s translation option. While far from perfect it will give you some understanding of how Lapierre accomplished so much shooting with a phone, some simple gear, and no team.
