Remember the joke in the Christopher Reeve Superman Movie when Clark Kent couldn’t find a suitable phone booth to change in? There was only a pedestal style booth, nothing that would allow Ken to maintain his modesty.
A couple of decades later, even pedestal phone booths are becoming only a memory in the US. But in England, the beloved phone booths never disappeared. With the rise of cellphones, they just became less and less useful.
Until now. Thanks to the imagination of two geography students, phone booths in London are being turned into charging stations for electronic devices. You can read all about it in a BBC report.
If the above information makes you feel nostalgic, you might enjoy Steve Younish’s comprehensive piece “Superman and the Phone Booth.”
Or if silly is your thing, here’s a delightful LEGO movie about Superman and the perils of finding a phone booth for changing.
