The Faces 2018 African Student Cellphone Film Competition encourages students from Africa “to express themselves and to engage with issues of relevance to Africa, using available cellphone technology.” Check out the pitch video featuring last year’s winner Choolwe Nsanzya.
The challenge is to make a film—live action or animation—using a smartphone. Run-time limit is 3 minutes. Each entry must contain the words “human” and “rights” and “wrongs” in any order, in the dialogue, or in written form. Submission deadline is 31 July, 2018. The competition is sponsored by the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria. For more information and the online application form visit www.chr.up.ac.za/faces or email faces@up.ac.za.
If you’re a student in Africa, this contest is for you. But even if you don’t live in Africa, you might want to follow the event to see some remarkable smartphone-shot movies.
