In the face of gigantic crises, the question often arises: “Is there anything that one person can do?” S.J. van Breda’s “The Secret Love Project” shouts out: YES. Her beautifully filmed, three-minute documentary tells the story of an artist who—during the Covid era—came up with a project that is making a huge difference in the lives of homeless people in South Africa, where van Breda lives. When asked why she chose to shoot vertically, the filmmaker explained that it was a requirement for the Nespresso Talents International film competition. Those who value having their movies seen will applaud van Breda’s answer.
“The Secret Love Project” completed filming on the 14th of March, 2020, one day before South African President Ramaphosa announced a national state of disaster due to Covid-19. The movie—shot using FiLMiC Pro— features Cape Town artist Michael Elion.
