“Tell You Tell Me” is a daring rap music video that goes beyond entertainment. The film, featuring IMPS, reveals the singer’s inner conflicts witnessed by a mysterious woman who might be a mental health provider. For the first two-thirds of the video, the action is confined to a room, which acts as a kind of psychic pressure cooker. This leads to a sudden and dramatic change of location for the film’s highly emotional conclusion. Directed by London-based Cassius Rayner, the production took the top award in the music video category at this year’s Dublin Smartphone Film Festival. Rayner credits IMPS for the video’s story concept, with the filmmaker visualizing and structuring the singer’s ideas.
The video was shot using an iPhone 8 plus and an iPhone 7 plus with an ExoLens telephoto. The filmmakers used the FilLMiC Pro camera app for recording the footage and also FiLMiC Remote as a monitor. Stabilization was achieved with a Zhiyun Smooth 4 gimbal, which is shown in the behind-the-scenes video below. Locations were in Beckenham South London and Greenwich.
