In the mid-19th century, British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace warned: “Future ages will certainly look back upon us as a people so immersed in the pursuit of wealth as to be blind to higher considerations.” Now considered as the co-founder of the theory of evolution, Wallace believed that the rise of agriculture (and civilization) inevitably would bring about environmental decline. The only hope—a long shot, admittedly— is to overcome the blindness. That is the goal of works such as “Walden,” “The Silent Spring,” and “An Inconvenient Truth.” In that tradition, we have “bee-roll” directed by Alexandra Guillossou. The co-protagonists are a young girl portrayed by Nathalie Guillossou and a swarm of bees.
