In “Climate Overpop Change” Italian director Francesca Perpetuini uses a tsunami of digital photos to symbolize the threat of overpopulation. A flashing digital alert—”iPhone Storage Full”—and a cacophony of voices serve as a call to action on climate change.
The one-minute video is a finalist in the 2019 Mobile Film Festival “Act Now on Climate Change” annual event. Based in France, MFF’s slogan is “1 Mobile, 1 Minute, 1 Film.” This year the Festival received more than 800 entries.
“Climate Overpop Change” joins a growing number of films that use the phone’s screen as the main or only location. Previous examples featured on this site include “How Can It Be” (a music video) and “Tell Me About Yourself” (a comedy).
