Colin Solal Cardo’s “All Away” has won the Grand Prize in the music video category at the Cine-Drones Festival 2015. The four-minute movie, featuring a song by Art of Shades offers plenty of visual delights including–as you’d expect with drone cinematography–spectacular high-angle imagery. Keeping the two frenetic dancers in the frame with the camera in constant motion had to be a challenge. But wait: there’s more…or perhaps we should say less.
Like most dramatic music videos, in this one we view the action from a variety of perspectives: close, far, looking down, at eye level. However, watch carefully and you’ll realize that the video, with camerawork by Atheneum Films, was made without cuts.
Although there are stunning examples of conventionally filmed, single-shot movies–“Russian Ark” comes to mind–we find it hard to imagine matching the visual richness of “All Away” without using a drone.
“All Away” also won “Best Cinematic Narrative” at the inaugural Flying Robot International Film Festival.
Wow! Pretty incredible that this was filmed by a drone. It is so well done with many angles and views. The film is very dramatic with terrific moves by the dancers. Fun to watch!
