We all can agree that GoPros can be used to make entertaining movies and to capture the joy of individual efforts. But as the accompanying video demonstrates, this new technology has great potential in the world of science.
The project documents research carried about by scientists from the University of Miami and the Naval Postgraduate School.
In addition to featuring dramatic aerial footage, the video provides a clear, step-by-step account of how the experiment is structured. The scientists had to solve a variety of problems including limited battery powering the drones and distortion caused by the GoPro’s fisheye lens. “Drones at the Beach” therefore should be of interest to students and also to anyone who cares about the health of our oceans, that is, to everyone.
