Dublin Smartphone Film Festival Announces 2019 Winners

The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival (DSFF )has just announced the winners of its 2019 competition. The Grand Prize went to “The Missing Things.” Shot on an iPhone 8 and an iPhone X, this documentary about dementia was directed by Australian Jason van Genderen. The film also won in the documentary category.

The Festival, headed by Robert Fitzhugh, was launched in 2018 with the goal of celebrating movies shot on smartphones and tablets. Submissions to the 2020 competition will open in February.

The other five top winners are:

  • “Upend” (fiction) directed by Blake Worrell (US)
  • “Promise” (music video) directed by Ivan Sosnin (Russia)
  • “Happiness”(animation) directed by Dimitar Dimitrov (Bulgaria)
  • “Faoladh” (360/VR–historical drama) directed by Declan Dowling (Ireland)
  • “Birdman” (Best Irish entry) directed by Simon O’Neill (Ireland)

This Magazine has already showcased “Promise” and intends to cover the other five films in the coming weeks.
