Horror encountered in exotic places makes a kind of sense. And so we have Skull Island (“King Kong”), the Amazonian rainforest (“Anaconda”), and the Arctic (“The Thing from Another World.”) No big surprise if you meet up with a T.rex in Jurassic Park. But if you’re on familiar turf, there’s an extra adrenalin hit when weirdness happens. And that brings us to the suburban driveway in Blake Calhoun’s “Preowned.” That’s as much of a spoiler as we dare to offer.
Making a Movie to Test the Gear: In the Filmmaker’s Own Words
“I’ve made a lot of iPhone shot short films, and …as an indie filmmaker I think this is a great way to go. [S]everal of the shorts I actually made as a way to do a real-world test of new features (versus just shooting a boring “test video”) – and my latest short film “PREOWNED” falls into this category.
“With the iPhone 13 Pro series devices Apple now offers ProRes video encoding and FiLMiC Pro has taken that one step further and includes ProRes log (they call it LogV3+). So, I wanted to test it out.”
