“The Unseen” might sound like the title for a horror movie. In reality, this three-minute film belongs in the confession genre—an autobiographical piece about gambling addiction. But perhaps the suggestion of horror makes sense because the draw of the spinning wheel is frightening. The movie, which won the LumaFusion Prize at SF3, is not only instructive about gambling. It also shows us how much can be accomplished in a one-person production. The filmmaker Tom Major wrote the poetic narration, performed the lead role, handled the camera using an iPhone 13 and FiLMiC Pro, and did the editing with LumaTouch.
Tom Major in His Own Words
I’m Tom, the founder of Major Tom Creative. I’m a Cinematic Video Producer (meaning I add LUTS). I shoot using the Panasonic GH6 and the best smartphone cameras in the industry, currently the iPhone 13 PRO Max, in ProRes 422 only. Video production has arguably become one of the most influential industries in the world. I believe that videographers need to be more conscious about the impact they have on people and the environment. Our aim is to provide best-in-class videography services to our clients whilst maintaining full focus on sustainability.
