“Gorgeous,” directed by Israeli filmmaker Gal Muggia, features the Terry Poison band. The video, honored at the iPhone Film Festival brings to life the song’s central theme: “And she was gorgeous and she was ready to do, all of the many things a gorgeous would usually do.”
Visually, there’s much to admire. The opening, for example, provides a memorable lesson in the art of the close-up. A faux Flash Mob near the end is an homage to grassroots, camera-phone reportage: Now we all can be paparazzi.
“Gorgeous” demonstrates that the mobile camera is not a toy. Mosh Mishali’s cinematography—worth repeated viewings—rivals what you might see in a work shot with a high-end camera. But of course it is never the equipment. The secret to making a memorable music video is having a great performance and visual daring.
The winner was selected for MobileMovieMaking by our guest judge John Celona, a screenwriter, filmmaker, composer, and media artist. Author of the graphic novel Nightfreight, John has won many screenwriting competitions, most recently at the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival.
The prize for winning MMM’s Music Video Contest is a set of lenses contributed by OlloClip.
