As MMM has reported in several articles (SloPro, Shooting SloMo Using a Spotting Scope), mobile moviemakers already have the ability to create slow motion effects. But image quality has been an issue. Now, according to an article by Mikael Ricknäs in PC World, Toshiba has developed a camera sensor (T4KA3) that makes possible a frame rate of 240 frames per second without image degradation or loss of significant brightness. The 240 frames per second rate translates into slowing action by a factor of 10.
PC World reports that the sensor will be available in large quantities in April 2015. However, Toshiba has not revealed the cost nor whether the product will be able for all smartphones.
