One of the most exciting ways to use a video camera is to create an entry for a contest. The good news is that there are more and more contests exclusively for mobile moviemakers. When we find these contests, we’ll post the news here.

Which brings us to the iKan Fly Smartphone Film Contest featuring a top prize of $5,000 in gear and services. That prize includes IKan’s remarkable stabilization device.

But even if you don’t win anything, you can have fun and can sharpen your skills by creating a project that fits the criteria. In this case, the challenge is to make a 3-minute movie on any subject and in any genre. There are a couple of strings. For example, you have to use an iKan product or a yellow prop. And you must include one of a few given promotional phrases such as “Ikan be inspired” or “I think, therefore Ikan.” (If your movie is silent, the phrase must be on a title card.)

The deadline for submitting an entry form is April 30, 2015. The deadline for uploading the video is May 31, 1015.
