Hits such as “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” “King of the Hill,” “Erin Brockovich,” and “Traffic” established Steven Soderbergh as one of Hollywood’s top directors. Always an innovator, Soderbergh used an iPhone to shoot his latest movie–“Unsane.” He didn’t do so as a gimmick or to save money. In an Indiewire article, Soderbergh expressed enthusiasm for the quality of the phone’s 4k capture, adding that he planned to use the device in future productions.
“There’s a philosophical obstacle a lot of people have about the size of the capture device. I don’t have that problem. I look at this as potentially one of the most liberating experiences that I’ve ever had as a filmmaker, and that I continue having. The gets that I felt moment to moment were so significant that this is, to me, a new chapter.”
