GoPro has just made a deal for streaming GoPro videos via Roku. Starting this spring, GoProers can now exhibit their work on what used to be—somewhat contemptuously—called “the small screen.” Only now, thanks to The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, and all those other great shows, TV is now seen as the venue for creative video.
You can find all the details in a recent Variety article. That in itself is news because once upon a time Variety’s beat was Hollywood. Now it’s focus is anything that moves—and moves a sizable audience.
The news is encouraging to those of us making the effort to create watchable video using our mobiles. This brave new world of television doesn’t just break the old rules, but instead makes exciting new ones. As an example, when you’re streaming, there’s no need to make all the episodes in a series the same length.
What lies ahead? That’s for us to discover. But we’re lucky to live in a time of GoPro and Roku.
