The bad news: most of us weren’t able to attend MojoCon 2015 held in Dublin March 27 and 28. The good news: some of the world’s best mobile journalists were there to cover the activities of what was billed as the first world-wide Mobile Journalism Conference. Through their writing, photography, and linking, these working journalists have enabled us non-attendees to experience—at least virtually—this important happening.
Alison Gow is one of the reporters who attended the conference. She also was a presenter. Her session touched upon “work that had been done in newsrooms with Google Glass.”
Gow’s detailed, thought-provoking, and amusing report of MojoCon 2015 conveys both the content and the emotions of the program. Based in the UK, Gow defines herself as “a journalist particularly interested in storytelling, networks and digital innovation.” Her account of the conference is a textbook example of digital journalism. She summarizes many of the key presentations, includes significant quotes, and provides links to videos, such as one featuring a program keynoter Richard Sambrook:
Topics that Gow covers include the three disruptions to traditional news—mobile, social, and real-time visual—and what it takes to succeed as a 21st century journalist.
Her report has plenty of facts. But it also is personal. For example, she includes her own big take-away, namely that “we have to be faster, more nimble, and more open-eared/open-minded to trying new things.”
