According to  W. Edwards Deming, “Monetary rewards are not a substitute for intrinsic motivation.” We’re not surprised. Our interviews with scores of successful mobile moviemakers reveals that almost all of them shoot movies because they love doing so. But that doesn’t mean competing for a filmmaking prize is a bad thing. In fact, for lots of people, it can add to the fun. If you’re in that group, now is the time to enter My RØDE Reel 2018 Competition. This year, the gear company is offering a huge number of prizes. (An AUD—Australian dollar—currently equals about .75 US.)  Online entry is free. Deadline is July 31, 2018.

Entries can be made with any kind of camera, but there is a special category for smartphone movies. The only gear requirement is that each entry must be made using at least one piece of  RØDE equipment. Proof of meeting that requirement is that each entry must include a behind-the-scenes video that shows the RØDE gear in action.

Prize categories include: People’s Choice, Best Female Filmmaker, Best Young Filmmaker, Best Behind the Scenes Video, Television Commercial, Virtual Reality, Drama, Horror, Comedy, and Documentary.
