Art has many goals. Common objectives include: to thrill us, to make us laugh, to give life to the past, and to envision the future. Rarer is the aim of showing us what we’d rather ignore. Picasso took on this challenge with his anti-war masterpiece “Guernica.” And now we have Nico Piro’s “Bosnia, where Europe ends.” In six minutes Piro documents what happened after Croatia blocked migrants trying to reach North Europe. Specifically, during the 2020 Christmas season, a fire at the Lipa refugee camp left migrants trying to survive hunger, snow and ice. The filmmaker puts on screen what EU leaders in Bruxelles didn’t want the world to see. The horror isn’t just the immigration crisis. Darker still is the abandonment of Europe’s humanitarian values.

The editors of MobileMovieMaking have chosen “Bosnia, where Europe ends” as the Mobile Movie of the Week.
It is always a problem of looks. Nico Piro’s movie is a look at the dramatic reality of migrants in Bosnia. But it is also a look at us, against indifference and a very human reflection on the meaning of Europe.
I hope this documentary will win.
Bosnia where Europe ends.
Nico Piro
A truly moving account of the suffering plight of migrants in Bosnia. To see men living in such apalling conditions is just heart rending. Nico Piro managed to shine the light on one of the most dark borders in Europe. The images show us the squalid and horrendous conditions that these migrants have to suffer trying to reach relatives or just dreams and aspurations, while many perish there on that border in a small cold and forgotten graveyard so unobstructively filmed in this documentary. Well done then Nico Piro and his team as Where Europe ends is indeed a strong voice in a sea of a silent Europe . Excellent use of edit of soundtrack and pace that fully represent the slow and tragic pace of these men.
Nico Piro, a special correspondent always on the side of the least
