Parkour videos usually focus on the visible performance. They show us dazzling moves of the kind that would bring viewers to their feet if parkour were a spectator sport. In “Free,” Mobile moviemaker Cassius Rayner gives us a different perspective. He arranges for the athlete JA to take us inside, so that we can appreciate the motivation and joy of defying gravity.

About Cassius Rayner
Cassius Rayner is a UK-based mobile moviemaker. His earlier work includes “Extinction Rebellion,” “Tell You Tell Me,” and “London Falls Silent,” which was our choice as the 2020 Mobile Movie of the Year. Rayner teaches smartphone filmmaking at ScreenSpace (Met Film School) and London Film Academy, and is a guest lecturer at the British Film Institute. He shoots on an iPhone and comments that “a big part of what I shoot couldn’t be captured at the level I want and expect without the FilmicPro app.”
