“Singing in the Rain” is best remembered for its outside dance scene. Of course, that rain-drenched sequence was actually shot on a sound stage. It’s taken the smartphone to bring dance movies into the real world. We’ve featured many films in this guerrilla-dance genre including Tristan Pope’s “Dancers of New York,” Blake Calhoun’s “First Dance” and Lilian Manansala’s “lo-fang’s #88”). Now, Jamiel Laurence’s prize-winning “Master Plan” takes things a step further. The camera doesn’t just document the dance set in a background of trees and traffic. By responding to the moves of the primary dancer —16-year-old Jamie Campbell—in effect the smartphone becomes a dancing partner.
