Dutch filmmaker Vera Verhoef has won the Best Student Film award at the 2021 Mobile Film Festival. Verhoef’s entry—”Wildfire Tears”—reflects the theme of this year’s Festival: “Making Peace With Nature.” About the content of her one-minute animation, Verhoef wrote: “Climate change is boosting wildfires! Unplanned, unwanted and uncontrolled. Destroying everything in its path including nature and all living animals, but there is hope if we are careful.” The film was shot using a Galaxy S10+ with images taken from “some almost thrown away biology books.”
