Most video news stories spotlight one person. This might be a meteorologist analyzing a storm or an ordinary person who had an extraordinary experience, for example, surviving a bear attack. Akin to protagonists in narrative films, such people in the spotlight are the stars of journalistic productions. And like their fictional counterparts, they often are surrounded by supporting eyewitnesses who add details to the account. In Philip Bromwell’s RTE news feature: “Ireland’s First Wildlife Hospital Opens Its Doors,” one of the secondary roles is played by the owner of a food truck. His commentary reinforces the words of the featured veterinarian while adding color to the story.
