Emmanuel Lubezki was born in Mexico in 1964. He has worked with many directors, including Mike Nichols, Tim Burton, Michael Mann, and Joel and Ethan Coen, He won the cinematography award three years running for Gravity (2013), Birdman (2014), and The Revenant (2015).
About mobile moviemaking, Lubezki says, “I think the next great cinematographer is already making movies with one of these devices. Kids are able to learn and to do all the training almost by themselves, and that’s incredible. You’re starting to see amazing things coming up. And I think it’s about to define a lot of how movies are going to be made in the future.”
