This tutorial from StudioBinder covers six techniques for grabbing audiences at the fade-in. Scenes taken from relatively recent films—such as “Skyfall” and “Marriage Story”—illustrate the ideas. While the  examples come from big-budget movies, the suggestions apply to any story, whatever the budget. While the material is clear and proven, we note that in some cases the focus is on the opening sequence rather than just one scene. Either way, it’s about creating compelling hooks.
