Who can count the ways that Covid-19 has changed our lives? While it’s easy to dwell on the negatives, people around the world are coming up with inventive alternatives to the old ways. For a touching example, we bring you “We made a supermarket at home for my 87 year old mum.” This four-minute docudrama was directed by Jason Van Genderen and shot on an iPhone 11 Pro. In the movie, Jason and his family create an at-home shopping experience for his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Forced to stay at home, Jason’s “mum” missed the simple pleasure of going to Coles Market. Instead of urging her to accept that new normal, the Van Genderens used their theatrical skills to bring joy to one woman and—via moviemaker—viewers around the world. The cast and crew consisted of the director’s wife Megan, baby daughter Evie, younger son Art, with his eldest son Levi serving as cinematographer.
