A key factor in the mobile moviemaking revolution is the advent of festivals that showcase works shot with smartphones and tablets.
At the forefront of this development is the International Mobil Film Festival. Begun in 2010 and based in San Diego, California, it was one of the first such festivals to exhibit mobile movies in the real world—as opposed to only on the Web.
Founded by Susy Botello, who has been in video production for over 13 years professionally, the Mobil Film Festival has incorporated many of the elements found in traditional festivals, such as awards workshops, and a red carpet.
The Festival’s overview video includes clips from some of the mobile movies honored since the program’s inception.
